Tár (2022)

Rating: 7/10
Runtime 158 minutes

"Tár" is a bleak look at power imbalances and the associated potential for abuse. Instead of focusing on an overweight, balding, older, white male, however, in this movie the person with power is a lesbian.

The acting is superb, the storyline engaging, and the movie has both a strong beginning and a strong ending. Nevertheless, I can't help but wish the movie hadn't focused on a predatory lesbian conductor. It's not that lesbians are better people, or less inclined to be abusive.

Yet, the entire movie feels a little off. It feels as if it were initially written about Weinstein, then someone simply changed Weinstein to Tár, producer to conductor, and called it a day.
